Science Fair Our science fair was held on Friday afternoon, April 16th in the school cafeteria. Students in grades K-5 displayed class projects and individual middle school projects were judged using the scientific method of hypothesis, procedure, and conclusion. Congratulations to Ava Simons in grade 6 for 1st place, Matthew Cote-Wurzler and Oliver Wood in grade 8 tied for 2nd place, and Owen Wood in grade 6 and Anna Cote-Wurzler in grade 8 tied for third place. Many thanks to Mr. Steve Richer, retired IBM engineer, and Dr. Joe Comeau, IBM engineer, for judging the projects. Thank you to Mr. Slusser for giving our students this wonderful learning opportunity!
Terra Nova Testing begins on Monday, May 3rd. It is important that students be here on time each and every day. Please do not plan for any appointments during the mornings of testing week. The best preparation for students is to get a good night’s sleep and eat a healthy breakfast. They are an important assessment of your child’s progress. We need 100% attendance for peak performance.
The St. Francis Xavier Stampede 5K and Children’s Races are on Saturday morning May 8th – come join the excitement!! The 3 races are a fun time for spectators and participants. Training for the run is a great way to get kids and family exercising this spring. Again this year all participants will get a $10 Fleet Feet gift certificate. We are trying to have as many kids as possible run one of the 3 races. We hope some of St. Joseph’s School community can join us! Feel free to invite co-workers, family, and neighbors. The 0.2 mile race is free and at 8:45 (it is a loop around the school and not on roads). The 2.5K and 5K ($10 or $5 for kids under 14) races are at 9:00. Walkers are welcome in the 2.5K. Free ice cream to all the children who participate. The registration form is on the St. Francis Xavier School website at http://www.sfxwinooski.org/SFX5Kinfo.html

God, help us stay calm as we prepare for the Terra Nova Assessments. We know you are present, and your presence can provide us with peace and comfort. May we write all that we know and have studied. If we become stressed, help us relax and sort out our confusion. If we need to guess, we pray the guess is a good one! Amen.
Have a fun and safe vacation week!
Change is the only absolute in the world, the only thing that you can depend on. Nothing stays the same. Tomorrow will come, bringing with it new beginnings and sometimes unexpected endings. You can hold on to the past and get left in the dust; or, you can choose to jump on the ride of life and live a new adventure with perseverance and an open mind.
